falling film plate evaporator

The falling film plate evaporator is a highly efficient and compact evaporation device. The material liquid enters from the top, forms a uniform liquid film on the surface of the plate through the distributor, and flows downward relying on gravity while being heated and evaporated by the heating medium. It features high heat transfer efficiency and short material residence time, making it particularly suitable for the gentle concentration of heat-sensitive materials such as fruit juice, dairy products, and pharmaceuticals. It has significant advantages of low energy consumption and small floor space..

  • Working Principle of Falling Film Plate Evaporator

The core principle of the falling film plate evaporator is gravity and thin-film heat transfer. Its working process can be broken down into the following key steps:

    Liquid Distribution:
The feed liquid enters from the top of the evaporator and is evenly distributed onto each plate via a precise liquid distributor.
    Film Formation:
Under the influence of gravity, the liquid flows downward along the vertical heat transfer surface of the plates, forming a very thin and uniform liquid film.
    Evaporation:
On the other side of the plates, the heating medium (typically steam or hot water) flows, providing heat to the liquid film.
This thin film is rapidly heated, causing partial instantaneous evaporation and generating vapor (called secondary steam).
    Separation
The vapor-liquid mixture (concentrated liquid and secondary steam) reaches the bottom of the evaporator and enters a separate separator.
In the separator, the concentrated liquid is discharged from the bottom, while the secondary steam is extracted from the top and can be used as a heat source for the next effect or be condensed.

How It Works: Precision Evaporation Technology

The falling film plate evaporator operates on a sophisticated yet efficient principle:

Top Distribution System: Liquid feed is precisely distributed across the top of the corrugated plate pack

Gravity-Driven Film Formation: Liquid flows downward as a thin, uniform film along the heat transfer surfaces

Simultaneous Heat Transfer: Heating medium (steam/hot water) flows counter-currently on the opposite side of plates

Instantaneous Evaporation: Partial evaporation occurs as the film descends, with vapor-liquid separation at the bottom

Continuous Concentration: Concentrated product is collected at the bottom while vapor is separately removed

Application Industries - Empowering Diverse Sectors
